Chance Encounters Over Coffee

We don't always wake up expecting new friendships to spark in the park. But that's the quiet power of coffee — to disarm, to level the playing field, and to let real conversations flourish when we least expect them. Anywhere. And with anyone. No matter your background or lifestyle.

In the months ahead, we'll be sharing more of our ‘Brewing What Matters’ campaign portraits celebrating the vibrant Smith St family — all photographed in the neighbourhood we call home. Each one captures those familiar moments -  the daily rituals and incidental interactions between friends, and friends in the making.

In this first portrait, the lens focuses on Dom and Lizzie.

You may have met Dom's beaming smile in our Gladesville cafe, or perhaps from the days he took his Noah's Ark mobile cafe to schools across Sydney. His zest for life is infectious, and from 6am most mornings he goes above and beyond to bring a side serving of joy to every single customer.

As the Smith St family’s most famous and fabulous fashionista, Lizzie also happens to be part of our founders, Janette and Ross’, extended family. One of our biggest advocates, she’s been spreading the word of our blends amongst friends since our very beginning.

And for our canine companions - Minnie, the cheese loving Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and Florence, the best groomed labradoodle — we called on one of our long-time suppliers and friends to complete the scene. Whoever said you shouldn't work with animals was dreaming. We think they made a great, if unexpected, pairing in the park.

More Than a Coffee Roaster

At its heart, Smith St binds together communities and cultures. Real people, real relationships, real connections — coffee in hand — that grow strong over time.

It goes beyond a simple transaction as you buy your morning brew. Its the daily, coffee-held conversations that grow the vibrant communities we love across Sydney.

Chatty baristas and extended families. Neighbours in business. The familiar faces who offer a word of support or help you through a tough day — and the ones you celebrate life's wins with.

These are the people we value most, and the ones we want to shine a light on. They remind us of what we already have around us. And when we come together to brew what matters, we step together towards a better tomorrow.
